PANTOSCOPE

Pantoscope started out as an exploratory project attempting to make some headway on the question ‘what is it like to live as another?’. Philosophy sometimes asks the question ‘what is it?’. Failing to answer that, we might turn to poetry and ask ‘what is it like?’.

My name is Anushka and I’m a creative writer and fashion writer living in London and working in environmental policy consulting. While studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford, I shared poems with friends and began to submit work to magazines, newspapers, and journals, winning ‘Poet Laureate’ at my college. I’m interested in sustainable fashion and have enjoyed doing some fashion writing since completing an internship in my first year of University. I was selected as a Writer for Creativeth’s indie show during London Fashion Week SS24, where I documented the runway show and interviewed designers backstage.

Pantoscope is home to some of my prose, fashion pieces, book reviews, interviews, poems, and photos. I set out to explore my guiding question (‘what is it like to live as another?’) through several different lenses, forms, and approaches, hence the name Pantoscope, a historic word for a very wide-angled photographic lens. Since then, the project has pushed past the central question into something a little more sprawling, but I like to think it still maintains its moments of lucidity and focus (camera pun intended).

Accolades and reviews:

I was recently awarded Emerging Writer 2024, an award by not-for-profit 26 recognising a writer in their first 5 years of commercial work. Pantoscope formed part of my submission.

“Pantoscope is like breathing in a forest”.
